Mbazulike Iloka, the chairman of the Nnewi North Local Government Area’s Transition Committee, has been placed on administrative leave by Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.
A few days after the newly-elected TC Chairman of Nnewi North LGA was sworn in, the state government suspended him due to events that resulted in the death of his wife, Mrs. Chidiebere IIoka.
Iloka, often known as Mba Mba, was suspended due to the significant controversy caused by the circumstances surrounding the death of his wife last Sunday.
According to reports, the deceased collapsed and passed away after preparing her husband’s breakfast, however neighbors and people who knew the couple speculated that Iloka, who supposedly had a record of beating his wife, may have murdered her.
The public uproar over her death followed the alleged discovery of traces of abuse on her body as well as a large head wound that raised suspicion.
The letter of suspension was issued to journalists on Friday and was signed by Mr. Tony Nwabunwanne, the Anambra State Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Community Affairs.
In order to prevent tampering with the investigation, the chairman who was under fire was urged to turn over to the head of local government administration in the letter.
According to the letter, the TC chairman was suspended due to widespread outrage, which included reports of a potential murder.
the letter bearing the title, ‘Letter of suspension from office,’ reads, “Following the sad news of the death of your wife, late Mrs. Chidiebere Iloka on 7th August 2022, there has been a massive outcry over the circumstances leading to her death, including alleged possible homicide.
‘While you are presumed innocent until the completion of investigations, it has become imperative that you step aside to allow unfettered investigation and justice.’
‘Consequently, you are directed to step aside and to hand over the affairs of the local government to the head of local government administration, not later than 12th August 2022, until further notice.’
Iloka had just been in office for roughly a week when he was suspended; he had just been appointed local government chairman.
