Buhari Frowns At Violence In The Southeast, Consoles Obiozor

President Muhammadu Buhari has sent out strong words of condemnation over the recent crisis in the Eastern region describing as ‘deeply distressing’ the recent destruction of buildings and assets of the Police in Imo State as well as the home of the President-General of Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, the Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo, Professor George Obiozor, whom the president indicated was is a leading voice of moderation in the affairs of the Nigeria.
The President made this known in a statement which was made public by his special assistant, Garba Shehu, where he strongly condemned the violence in the sub-region while also calling on residents to do whatever they can to maintain peace.
He went on to assure Nigerians that the present ugly situation in the entire Southeast is being reviewed and that actions would be taken sooner than later.
The President Buhari also called on the people of the South East, particularly the people of Imo State to maintain peace as the police and other security agencies are working tirelessly to ensure that normalcy is restored at the earliest possible time.
The president further went on to extend his sympathies to the police authorities over the loss of men and materials and to Professor Obiozor, who he urged to maintain his commitment to the peace and oneness of the federation against these odds.
The Eastern Updates had earlier reported that the country home of the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, George Obiozor was on Saturday morning set ablaze by some yet-to-be identified gunmen.
The incident took place in Awo- Omamma, the hometown of Mr Obiozor, in Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State.
The Eastern Updates further gathered, that the gunmen used Improvised Explosives Devices to destroy the building while attacking it.
Residents of the area said the gunmen drove into the compound at about 6:15 a.m., shot indiscriminately for over 15 minutes before they set the house ablaze.
Mr Obiozor’s brother’s houses were also set ablaze according to reports.
