Windstorm Destroys 50 Homes, School Structures In Aguleri

No fewer than 50 residential and school buildings have been destroyed in heavy windstorm that struck Aguleri, home town of Anambra state governor Willie Obiano.

The tragedy has left at least 2,000 students stranded following the destruction of two schools in the community on Saturday night.

Correspondents who visited the community reported that a camp has been opened for displaced people at Father Joseph Memorial High School, given the fact that more than 10 buildings, was also damaged by the windstorm.

A board member in charge of Post Primary School Service Commission, Otuocha Zone, Joe Enemou and the Zonal Director of the commission in the area, Ogochukwu Obi who were on ground to inspect the level of damage done to the schools described the incident as colossal ,stating that only the federal and state governments can be able to handle the level of devastations.

The windstorm also affected private buildings and shops, causing untold hardship to the people who are predominantly farmers.
