Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State on Saturday, attributed his return to office to the “special grace of God” and “special favour” of President Bola Tinubu.

Tinubu had suspended Fubara for six months following crisis with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike and the state legislators.

Upon completion, Tinubu reinstated Fubara while the governor resolved the bad blood between him, Wike, and legislators in the state.

However, speaking at the combined 37th and 38th convocation of the Rivers State University, Nkpolu-Oroworukwu in Port Harcourt, on Saturday, the governor affirmed his administration’s commitment to fully funding the institution and supporting its staff and students.

“Like you said, a report was given to us. But you all know what happened in the life of our administration. It is only by the special grace of God, the special favour from Mr President, that we are standing here still as the ones presiding over the affairs of Rivers State.

“We will continue to fulfil our financial obligations to the university, ensuring improved infrastructure as well as the security and welfare of staff and students.

“Education remains the most vital investment for national development,” Fubara said.

In other news, Rivers State Governor Siminialayi Fubara has succumbed to pressure by the State House of Assembly led by Martins Amaewhule over the condition of public schools in the state.

The State Assembly had, during its plenary, penultimate Thursday, expressed displeasure over the condition of secondary and primary schools in the state.

But on Monday, Fubara countered the lawmakers, noting that the decay in public schools did not start with his administration.

However, the governor, on Tuesday, ordered the immediate recall of 1,000 teachers whom the government employed in 2023.
