President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Aminu Yusuf as chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC).
The short ceremony took place during the first part of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday and was witnessed by cabinet members.
The senate had earlier confirmed Yusuf’s appointment on October 21.
After officials read the citations, the five permanent secretaries, which are Abdulkarim Ibrahim, John Ezeamama, Abdul-Sule Garba, Isiaku Mohammed and Ukaire Chigbowu took their oaths of office at 1:42 pm and signed the register.
Yusuf, appointed on October 9, was sworn in together with two members of the commission, including Tonga Betara of Yobe state.
The NPC is responsible for national census, vital registration and demographic data used for development planning.
FEC also held a minute’s silence for Joy Ogwu, a former minister of foreign affairs who died on October 13 at 79, before continuing with its eighth council meeting of the year.
In October, the council of state approved Yusuf’s appointment. He takes over from Nasir Isa Kwara, who was appointed in 2020.
In other news, The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, says it will have its National Caucus and National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting on Monday, 15th December 2025, and Tuesday, 16th December 2025, respectively.
Both meetings are set to take place at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
This was contained in an official notice signed by the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, shared on the party’s website on Wednesday.
According to the notice, the National Caucus meeting will convene on Monday, 15th December 2025, at 6:00 pm. The National Caucus is one of the organs of the party under Article 11 of the APC Constitution.
The notice said that the caucus will bring together key party stakeholders, including the “National Chairman, Deputy National Chairmen (North and South), National Secretary, Deputy National Secretary, National Legal Adviser.
