Nigerian celebrity chef Hilda Baci has secured yet another historic milestone as Guinness World Records, GWR, has officially recognised her for preparing the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice.
In a post shared on its official X account, Guinness World Records announced:
“New record: Largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice – 8,780 kg (19,356 lb 9 oz) achieved by Hilda Baci and Gino in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.” They wrote.
The achievement came after a grand culinary spectacle held on September 12, 2025, at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The event, tagged the ‘Gino World Jollof Festival’ with Hilda Baci, drew thousands of attendees and generated massive social media buzz.
Hilda Baci, who first rose to international prominence in 2023 when she set the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon, has now reinforced her reputation as one of Nigeria’s most celebrated chefs.
The Lagos event attracted celebrities including Funke Akindele, Enioluwa Adeoluwa, Tomike Adeoye, and Pastor Idowu, as well as Bamidele Abiodun, wife of the Ogun State Governor, who all came out to support the chef’s latest record-breaking attempt.
The giant pot in which Nigerian chef and former Guinness World Record holder Hilda Baci attempted to make the world’s largest dish of jollof rice has broken as it was being hoisted on a crane to be weighed.
Thousands of people gathered in Lagos to watch the latest world record bid from the well-known food influencer, who in 2023 held the title for the longest cooking marathon.
Her recipe for jollof, a popular West African dish, included 4,000kg (8,800lb) of rice, 500 cartons of tomato paste and 600kg of onions – all poured into a custom-made pot that can hold 23,000 litres.
The dish took nine hours to cook but despite two attempts, it was not possible to weigh the enormous pot of food.
