The Peoples Democratic Party has zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the South.
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, disclosed this while addressing journalists shortly after the National Executive Committee, NEC meeting of the party.
According to Debo, the decision followed the presentation of a report by the Zoning Committee chaired by Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri.
He further disclosed that the party also retained the existing National Working Committee zoning formula for the November elective convention.
”NEC recommended that the North and South should retain their current NWC positions.
“NEC also resolved that since the National Chairman of the party is zoned to the North, the PDP 2027 Presidential ticket is hereby zoned to the South.”
In other news, Former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2019 general election in Kebbi State, Senator Isa Galaudu, has resigned from the party.
Galaudu, who represented Kebbi North Senatorial District between 2011 and 2015 and later served as Chief of Staff to the Senate President, announced his resignation in a letter dated August 20, 2025, addressed to the PDP ward chairman in Augie North, Alhaji Muhammadu Aliyu Danbuga.
He said his decision was due to the state of the party, alleging that it is now “controlled by politicians of the national ruling party” and has been “substantially obliterated.”
Galaudu was the PDP’s flagbearer in the 2019 governorship election in Kebbi State.
The Eastern Updates had previously reported that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, on Thursday, declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will not reduce itself to the “gutter level” of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, just as he disclosed that the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) will take a stand on zoning and other issues during its meeting on Monday.
Makinde said this in Lagos during the stakeholders meeting of the zoning committee.
