The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf has expressed shock and sadness over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
He described the two term Nigeria’s President as a towering figure whose life embodied discipline, integrity, and unwavering love for Nigeria.
In a condolence message signed by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, , Governor Yusuf paid glowing tribute to the late President’s life of service.
He noted that both as a military ruler and as a democratically elected president, Buhari dedicated himself to the unity, stability, and progress of the nation.
“President Muhammadu Buhari devoted his entire life to serving our dear country with courage and sincerity,” Governor Yusuf said.
“His steadfastness, simplicity, and commitment to the welfare of ordinary Nigerians will continue to inspire generations.”
The Governor extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the late President, the government and people of Katsina State, and indeed all Nigerians who are mourning this monumental loss.
He prayed that the Almighty Allah forgive the late President’s shortcomings, grant him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus, and give the nation the strength to bear this great loss.
The 82-year-old politician served as military head of state between January 1984 and August 1985.
Buhari was appointed Executive Chairman of the Petroleum Trust Fund in 1994 by the Sani Abacha regime, overseeing major infrastructure interventions across the country.
He contested the presidency three times unsuccessfully, in 2003, 2007, and 2011, before clinching victory in 2015 under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, defeating then-incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan.
He was re-elected in 2019 and completed his second term in 2023.
Buhari’s 2015 inauguration marked a turning point in Nigeria’s democratic history, as it was the first time an opposition candidate unseated a sitting president through the ballot.
