Education Should Be Tinubu’s Top Focus, Says Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to place education at the forefront of national priorities, emphasizing the critical need for sustainable and adequate funding. According to Obasanjo, addressing the challenges within the education sector requires a long-term commitment to providing resources that will foster growth, innovation, and equitable access for all Nigerians.

During a keynote address at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, on Tuesday, former President Olusegun Obasanjo emphasized the urgency of government action in revitalizing the education sector. Speaking at the 70th birthday celebration of Oludele Ojediran, Vice Chancellor of Bells University, Obasanjo highlighted the pivotal role of education as the backbone of national progress and called for strategic interventions to secure its future.

“The President Tinubu and the Federal Government must find a means to finance education for its sustainability. Government at all levels must also empower the youths to become provider of job opportunities,” Obasanjo said.

Obasanjo expressed admiration for LAUTECH’s enduring commitment to academic achievement, noting the institution’s success in grooming accomplished professionals. He particularly lauded Professors Adeyemi and Ojediran, whose exemplary service as Vice Chancellors of Bells University underscores the quality of LAUTECH’s alumni.

The former President reiterated his advocacy for “education for service rather than for profit,” affirming his commitment to sustaining the legacy of education in Nigeria.

In his remarks, the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, praised Obasanjo’s enduring contributions to education and agriculture in the country. Addressing Professor Ojediran, the monarch encouraged him to leverage his expertise in agricultural engineering to uplift the agricultural sector in Ogbomoso.

“I will provide suitable land for farming to anybody who is interested in farming in Ogbomoso and its environment,” Oba Olaoye promised, emphasizing his commitment to fostering agricultural growth in the region

The occasion highlighted the intersection of education and agriculture as pivotal areas for national progress, underscoring the roles of both government and individuals in driving sustainable development.
