On Thursday, December 5, the Anambra State Joint Security Team foiled a potential crime when they intercepted a group of armed men on the Umuchu-Amesi-Uga Road. In a swift operation, they recovered a branded blue Hilux vehicle with the plate number GDD 440 TJ, alongside another car believed to have been stolen from an unsuspecting victim.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, confirmed the incident to the media, noting that a search of the intercepted vehicle led to the discovery of coolers designed for food storage. This unexpected item raised questions regarding the suspects’ plans.

Ikenga revealed that the armed men were tracked down by police forces after they attempted an attack on a police checkpoint at Ajali, situated in Orumba North Local Government Area. The officers’ effective resistance to the assault allowed them to follow the suspects closely.

‘’During the gun duel, one police personnel and one AVG Operative sustained gunshot injuries and are currently responding to treatment in a hospital. Unfortunately, the two operational vehicles belonging to the AVG were caught up in fire and razed down completely. Joint operations are still ongoing in the area and further developments would be communicated” he said
