In Gaza, at least 46 people were killed in Israeli strikes across the besieged Palestinian enclave, civil defence authorities in the Hamas-run Strip said Sunday.
Around 20 “projectiles” were fired from Lebanon towards Israel’s Haifa area on Sunday, and some of them were intercepted, the Israeli military said.
The death toll in Gaza increased on Sunday to at least 43,846 people killed and 103,740 people wounded in more than 13 months of war.
Hezbollah has announced the death of its spokesman Mohammed Afif, who according to one security source was among four people killed in an Israeli strike on central Beirut on Sunday.
Hajj Mohammed Afif al-Nabulsi, Hezbollah’s head of media relations, had been killed, said a statement, referring to him as “a great martyr on the road to Jerusalem”, the expression used for its members killed by Israel.
Lebanon’s health ministry said four people died Sunday in an Israeli strike on central Beirut’s Ras al-Nabaa district that a security source said killed Hezbollah spokesman Mohammed Afif.
“The Israeli enemy strike on Ras al-Nabaa led to a final toll of four dead including a woman and 14 others wounded including two children,” a health ministry statement said, raising an earlier toll of one dead and three wounded.
Lebanon said an Israeli strike on central Beirut’s Mar Elias district killed two people, the second such raid targeting the capital Sunday after an earlier strike killed a Hezbollah official.
Israel has been heavily bombing Beirut’s southern suburbs, a Hezbollah stronghold, since all-out war erupted on September 23, but attacks on central Beirut have been rarer.
“Israeli warplanes launched a strike on the Mar Elias area,” the official National News Agency said of a densely packed residential and shopping district that also houses people displaced by the conflict.
The health ministry said the strike killed two people and wounded 13, raising an earlier toll of one dead and nine wounded.
