The socio-political organization Afenifere has voiced its discontent with President Bola Tinubu’s government, criticizing its lack of official empathy for the “agony and distressing state of the nation” that many Nigerians are currently facing.
After a gathering at the Isanya-Ogbo residence of Pa Ayo Adebanjo, Afenifere decried what it described as the Federal Government’s detachment from the “deepening hardship, relentless insecurity, and widespread hunger” overwhelming Nigerians.
According to the group, the government’s lack of empathy is clear in policies that appear crafted to add to the public’s suffering, with the recent hike in fuel prices marked as the latest in this pattern of disregard.
In a statement obtained by the Eastern Updates on Thursday, Afenifere Deputy Leader Oba Oladipo Olaitan and Deputy Secretary-General Alade Rotimi-John conveyed the group’s observation that the Tinubu administration has yet to offer a cohesive plan to alleviate the challenges Nigerians are currently facing.
“Afenifere reviewed the unremitting distressing state of the nation’s social and economic situation under the President Bola Tinubu administration.
“Meeting observed that the distressful condition of the country is exemplified in pervasive hardship, unflagging insecurity and incapacitating hunger.

“The meeting noted the absence of official empathy respecting the people’s agonising situation.
“Meeting has instead observed an unwearying policy enunciation ostensibly aimed at compounding the woes of the people, e.g. the unabating fuel price hike.
“Meeting further observed the cavalier conduct of state affairs in, for instance, the absence of any coherent or unequivocal programme on the part of the government and its party.”
