The Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has expressed his sadness over the tragic news of the beheading of a couple in Bende Local Government Area of Abia.
The victims, Jacob Udo and his wife, Comfort Udo, were murdered and dismembered by yet-to-be-identified assailants.
A press statement signed by Chief Press Secretary Ukoha Njoku Ukoha said Governor Otti has directed security agencies in the state to thoroughly investigate and bring the culprits to book.
“The Governor, on behalf of the Government of Abia State, commiserates with the family of the victims and assures that the government is working round the clock to bring the perpetrators of the heinous crime to justice.
“He has also directed government officials to see how the dependents can be assisted in the interim,” the statement said.
In other news, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State revealed yesterday his intention to play a crucial role in determining who will succeed him after his term ends in 2027. This decision reflects his dedication to ensuring a seamless transition and upholding the policies he has championed during his administration.
While receiving the report from the Committee on Review and Update of Public Service Rules and Other Regulations in the State Civil/Public Service at the Executive Council Chambers of the Governor’s Office in Ibadan, Governor Seyi Makinde spoke candidly to those actively seeking to replace him. He encouraged a focus on the welfare of the people rather than the political jockeying that often characterizes such transitions.
He stressed his ability to shape the selection process, yet he acknowledged that the final decision ultimately rests in the hands of the electorate. This admission showcases the fundamental democratic principle that the people hold the power to choose their leaders.
