Officials from the United States said Friday that Washington had not been informed ahead of time about an extensive airstrike in the southern suburbs of Beirut, which Israel alleges was aimed at Hezbollah’s command center.
“The United States was not involved in this operation, and we had no advanced warning,” Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh told journalists.
President Joe Biden subsequently stated that “the United States had no prior knowledge of or involvement in the (Israeli) operation,” adding during a press briefing, “We are in the process of collecting information.”
“We’re still pulling for more details and trying to understand the operation itself,” Singh added.
The Israeli military reported on Friday that it executed “a calculated strike on the central headquarters” of Hezbollah, with prominent Israeli media suggesting that Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of the group, was the target.

“Sayyed Nasrallah is fine,” a source close to Hezbollah said.
Beginning last week, a sequence of Israeli strikes has impacted the southern areas of Beirut, primarily targeting high-ranking members of Hezbollah.
