Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT has reiterated that the government cannot compel landlords in the city to lower rent.

Wike said: “No government puts a cap as regards the cost of rent. It is the market forces.

“You are aware that everything has actually increased because of costs. The man who built the house didn’t build that he would not make profit at the end of the day.

“I don’t agree with people always complaining about rent increases, there are increases in everything today, so rent should not be singled out.

“Do you want us to make a law and say that a 2-bed room flat should not be more than N50,000 or N100,000, for example?”

In another news, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike has clearly stated on Friday that he still stands by his threat to take action in states where governors intervene in the Rivers State crisis and is unapologetic about it.

The political control and structure of Rivers State has caused a divide between Wike and Governor Sim Fubara, leading to a parallel end.

Amid the lingering battle, the PDP governors forum had backed Fubara against the minister.

Angered by their remark and position, Wike had threatened to put fire in the state of any governor who interfered in the political crisis in Rivers State.

However, featuring on Channels TV Politics Today, Wike said: “I said it to the governors forum and I repeat without any apologies to anybody anywhere. Heaven will never fall, in fact; if heaven falls there will be peace.
