Nigeria’s Defence Chief Vows To Capture Bandit Boss, Turji

General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), has made a commitment to apprehend the infamous bandit leader, Bello Turji.

Musa made the vow while addressing journalists in Abuja on Tuesday.

Recently, there has been news about Turji allegedly confiscating two mine-resistant vehicles that belong to the Nigerian Army.

Turji’s claim about the vehicles being demobilized due to bad terrain was dismissed by the military.

Turji had imposed a N30 million levy on the residents of Zamfara State as compensation for the killing of his cattle by soldiers, despite the military’s declaration.

Thee Service Chief assured that the issue of levy Turji placed on residents would be addressed when he’s captured.

According to Musa, the notorious bandit leader is deranged.

Musa said: “On the issue of Turji, he is just a deranged individual who feels power, but I can bet you that it’s just a matter of time.

“It is a matter of time; we’re going to get him, and I can assure you that it will be within the shortest possible time.

“We’re going to address that issue on the issue of payment of levy (to bandits). That is what they live on. And it shows you the desperation they are in.

“One, even when they get the money, they don’t have a way to use it. Two is that the money they’re getting, they know, is blood money.”

Bello Turji, the head of a band of bandits in Zurmi Local Government Area (LGA) of Zamfara State, has been persuaded by the residents of Moriki town to lower the ransom he slammed on them from ₦50 million to ₦30 million, with a Wednesday deadline for payment.

According to information obtained by The Eastern Updates, the money is purportedly payment for the new Army base commander recently stationed inside Moriki who had recently gunned down Turji’s cows.

Families had been mandated to donate ₦10,000 per head of each household, while single persons must pay ₦2,000.

It was also learned that the commander had promised not to hurt Turji’s animals in the future, but the villagers were still going ahead and paying the money.

According to The Eastern Updates, the villagers are afraid that if they don’t comply with Turji’s demands, he will assault them again and leave them defenseless against his cruelty.
