Petroleum Products Skyrocket To ₦950 Per Litre In Kano

Listen to article

Fuel prices in Kano State have taken a drastic turn for the worse. A liter now costs a jaw-dropping N900 to N950. It’s a harsh reality check for locals who are trying to keep up with the rising cost of living.

Commercial tricycle operators in the city are capitalizing on the fuel price crisis, hiking their fares by a whopping 100%! It’s a move that’s expected to make life even tougher for residents who rely on public transport to get around.

You’d think the government would have gotten the message after the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests. But no, instead we’re seeing prices rise and the people suffer even more. It’s a disappointing turn of events, to say the least.

The fuel crisis in Kano has reached a boiling point. Most filling stations in the city are shut tight, while the lucky few that are open are overwhelmed by snaking queues of desperate drivers. It’s chaos on the streets.

The fuel price situation in Kano was already bad, but it just got worse. Before the anti-hunger protests, prices were already inflated at N780-N850 per liter. Now, the few stations still operating are charging an outrageous N900-N950 per liter. It’s price gouging, plain and simple.

The black market is booming in Kano, with fuel traders capitalizing on the shortage. They’re selling fuel at astronomical prices, leaving motorists with little choice but to pay up. It’s a ruthless exploitation of a bad situation.

We dug deeper and found that black marketers are taking advantage of the fuel shortage, selling a liter of fuel for an outrageous N1,100 to N1,200. The price varies depending on where they’re operating, but one thing’s for sure – it’s a rip-off.

Drivers are up in arms about the fuel price hike, and we heard their concerns firsthand. Motorists are struggling to come to terms with the sudden increase, and how it will affect their daily commute.

Our attempts to contact Alhaji Gana Girge, the state Chairman of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, were unsuccessful. We’re still waiting to hear his thoughts on the fuel price hike and its impact on the industry.
