A tragic incident during a sewage evacuation exercise resulted in the loss of four precious lives, leaving residents stunned and grappling to come to terms with the magnitude of the disaster.
A source close to the incident revealed that the four victims had hatched a plan to clear the septic tank, with one person venturing into the tank to retrieve the waste while the others worked in shifts to empty the sludge. This fateful decision would ultimately prove disastrous, claiming the lives of all four individuals.
But as the minutes ticked by, a sense of unease settled over the group.The man inside the tank had fallen eerily silent, failing to communicate with his companions or send up any of the expected waste.
Alarmed by this sudden radio silence, a second individual decided to descend into the tank to investigate the ominous stillness.
Tragically, the second individual who entered the tank met the same ghastly fate as the first, succumbing to the same unknown forces. In a devastating chain of events, all four men perished in a similar manner, their lives cruelly extinguished in the depths of the septic tank.
The source revealed that their lifeless bodies were later transported to a local morgue, a grim conclusion to the ill-fated endeavor.
A native of the area, who identified himself as Oke, said: “That is the calamity that befell us today. One of the victims got married recently. His wife is nursing a one-month-old baby. Their bodies have been deposited in a mortuary.”
