Tragedy struck Umucheke Okwe Community in Onuimo LGA, Imo Sate, leaving eight lives lost to a brutal killing spree by unknown attackers. In response, Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma personally visited the scene to assess the carnage and pledge justice for the victims.
During his visit, Commissioner Danjuma was flanked by Dr. Emeka Obi, the Sole Administrator of Onuimo LGA, and Major A.I. Maikarifi, who represented the Commander of the 34 Artillery Brigade in Obinze, as they worked together to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Commissioner Danjuma, joined by fellow security officials, offered heartfelt condolences to the grieving families and the broader community, acknowledging the immense loss and trauma inflicted by the senseless tragedy.
The Commissioner and his team reassured the families and community that a collaborative effort between security agencies in the state was underway to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice, ensuring they face the severest consequences for their actions.
A statement released by Command Spokesperson ASP Henry Okoye revealed that the Commissioner’s entourage included notable figures such as Mathew Ovye, Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), and other high-ranking officials.
On Saturday, the usually peaceful Umucheke Okwe community in the Onuimo Local Government Area was rocked by a violent attack.
A local resident, who wished to remain anonymous, disclosed that the attackers struck while the victims were gathered for a meeting at the home of the Town Union President General.
As the attackers began shooting randomly, the President General and multiple village heads fell victim to the senseless violence.
The motive behind the killings remains unclear. The source stated, ‘Nobody can ascertain the reason for the attack, and there is growing apprehension in the community.’
