The whereabouts of Obinna Obi, a prominent community leader and architect, remain unknown after his family reported that he was taken away by military personnel, sparking a search for answers.

Obinna Obi, the President General of Umuaku Isuochi Development Union, in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State, was allegedly forcefully taken away by the military to an unknown location. His family is seeking answers and his safe return.

The family alleges that their son was taken into custody by a military team, led by a high-ranking officer, without being informed of the charges against him or where he was being detained.

According to the family’s emotional cry for help, labeled “Save Our Souls,” Obi was brutally arrested by military personnel, tied up, and dragged away in a truck, leaving his loved ones in a state of anguish.

The family said: “Nobody knows where they have taken him, nobody knows his whereabouts up till now. His wife and children are in severe panic and can’t sleep anymore. Our aged mum in the village is equally in shock and panic over the sudden action of the military. Little information we got is that this raid was carried out by an army major that is in charge of a military post at Lomara junction, along Isuochi.”

The family alleges that Obi was apprehended in the middle of the day at Umuaku Market Square, near his friend’s market stall, a daring and public arrest that has left the community reeling.

According to the family, Obi was in the village for a scheduled visit and to conduct meetings in his capacity as President General when he was abruptly seized by the military. His friends, who were present, were unable to prevent the arrest due to the soldiers’ aggressive behavior, which included firing shots recklessly.

But when contacted, the Director Army Public Relations, Maj Gen Onyema Nwachukwu, confirmed the arrest.

Nwachukwu said: “The information currently at my disposal is that Frank Obinna was arrested yesterday by troops during a raid operation in conjunction with other security agencies and Vigilance at Umuaku Isuochi, in Umunneochi LGA of Abia State.”

The Army Spokesperson noted that Obi was allegedly linked to coordination of IPOB/ ESN nefarious activities and camps in Umunneochi general area and presently in troops’ custody for further investigations.
