Ahead of the forthcoming local government and councillorship elections across the 13 local government areas of Ebonyi State, Governor Francis Nwifuru has pledged to resist the imposition of candidates from any quarter.
The Eastern Updates recalls that the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) had last weekend during a stakeholders’ meeting, announced it would conduct the elections on July 20.
Governor Nwifuru explained that he would resist every attempt to impose candidates on the people.
Barr. Jossy Eze who is the chairman of EBSIEC, announced this at a meeting with Chairmen/secretaries of political parties and heads of security agencies in the state.
He advised all political parties to take note of the statutory notice for election
The governor spoke at the Government House Chapel, New Government House, Abakaliki during a thanksgiving service.

He said he would hold meetings with stakeholders of various local governments in the state and advised any council chairman who wishes to contest the election to ensure he/she has the trust and support of the stakeholders.
“Like I told the council chairmen on Saturday night, those that want to contest the election to go back to their office, should do that with the trust and support of the stakeholders of their local governments because our party remains a very large party and we will do everything within our reach to resist imposition of candidates, we will resist it,” he said.
Nwifuru said as a governor busy with schedules, he may not know what is happening in the local governments but that the stakeholders know the happenings.
He explained that primaries for the election will happen between this month and May.
