The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Scheme has been hailed by the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma for its abundance of groundbreaking achievements in the past five decades, especially as it relates to youth development, nation building and selfless Service to humanity.
Speaking yesterday, Uzodinma said; “Truly the Scheme remains a true symbol of National unity, where Youths from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds unite and pursue a common goal.”
In his address at the Swearing-In ceremony /official opening of the 2024 Batch A Stream ll Orientation course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Eziama Obaire Nkwerre LGA. His Excellency, reiterated that the Scheme through its enviable workforce the Corps Members, since inception has institutionalized national unity and development, and has remained a beacon of hope for a better and more positive Nigeria through their high level of patriotism, resilience and hard work throughout their Service Year.

Addressing the 1,508 Corps Members comprising 740 males and 768 females at the occasion, the Governor encouraged the Corps Members to develop their skills and creativity for the Development of the State and Nigeria, saying that the skills and leadership traits instrumental to the development of the State are nurtured right from the orientation camp.
Representing the Special Guest, the Acting Permanent Secretary Ministry of Youth and Sports Mrs Duru C.N.V enjoined the Youths, just like their predecessors, to avail themselves of all the opportunities provided by the orientation course, which is designed to equip them morally, socially, psychologically, and physically to overcome challenges they might encounter through the Service Year.
”I encourage you to garner the leadership and problem solving qualities that would assist you to achieve the mandate and passionately contribute your quota to the development of Imo State.
He equally encouraged the Corps Members to embrace the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme which will prepare them for self-reliance and financial independence.
The Corps Members were further assured of the State Government’s readiness to provide adequate security for the Corps Members deployed to the State, as well as put a reward system for those who exceptionally discharge their assignments during the Service Year.
The NYSC Imo State Coordinator, Mrs Rachel Idaewor in her introductory address, commended the Batch for exhibiting a high sense of discipline and asked them to continue in this right step throughout the orientation exercise and beyond .She further advised them to make extra efforts to imbibe the motto of the Scheme, which is Service and Humility.
Mrs Idaewor used the opportunity to express her appreciation to the State Government and the good people of Imo State for providing a conducive environment for the Corps Members deployed to the State to serve their fatherland.
The Chief Judge of Imo State, represented by Hon. Justice Sabinus. I. Opara administered the Oath of Allegiance to the Corps Members and the Corps representatives later carried out the sample signing of the Oath of Allegiance form on behalf of all the Corps Members.
Highlights of the event were the Man O’ War’ Thug of War’ for the entertainment of the guests.
