Tragedy has struck the Umuezeokaoha community in Ebonyi State once again, as the palace of their revered traditional ruler, Eze Igboke Ewa, has been reduced to ashes just 72 hours before his final farewell.

This devastating act of arson comes as a painful reminder of the brutal murder of the monarch during the tumultuous 2023 election season.

On that fateful night, Eze Igboke Ewa’s compound was invaded by armed assailants who unleashed a hail of bullets, leaving him mortally wounded.

His assailants were said to have shot him repeatedly in the night when they invaded the compound.

Law enforcement agents swooped in, apprehending several suspects in connection with the monarch’s murder. Yet, the sense of loss and outrage lingers, as the community grapples with the senseless destruction of their beloved leader’s palace.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the incident to journalists in Abakaliki.

According to the Ukandu, they received a signal similar to the one described. They claimed that the signal was related to a fire incident at the late monarch’s house, which had been intentionally set ablaze by some individuals. Ukandu stated that they needed to verify the details of the signal to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

“Yes, I got a signal like that. They were called about a fire incident at the late monarch’s house.

“When I made further inquiry, they said that some people set it ablaze but let me check the signal on the incident very well and know what really happened,” he stated.

Prior to the palace fire incident, his family members had announced his burial to be this weekend.

Despite the palace arson, the family of the late Eze Igboke Ewa is pushing forward with burial plans, a show of resilience in the face of adversity.

Family members, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed to the press that funeral arrangements are almost complete as they forge forward to honor their patriarch.
