The lawmaker representing Abia North in the Red Chambers of the National Assembly, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has visited the Umunneochi Timber Market to sympathize with the victims of the recent fire incident in the market.
It was said to have destroyed shops and property worth billions of naira.
Represented by his senior legislative aide, Victor Etie, Chairman of OUK Movement, Umunneochi LGA, Basil Offor, Umunneochi LGA Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Ugochukwu Ezekwesiri, Kalu sympathised with the management of the market, and the traders whose goods were lost to the fire incident earlier this year.

“We are here to pay a sympathetic visit to the traders of the timber market over the fire outbreak and offer our total support to them at this trying time. We must appreciate God for their lives; once there is life, there’s hope.”
The market leaders through its chairman, Charles Okpara, thanked Senator Kalu for coming to sympathise with them over the inferno, saying the former Abia governor has always been part of them.
He promised to always give their total support to Kalu in all his future political endeavours.
In another report, the Chief Fire Officer and the State Controller and of Abia State Fire Service, Arua Nnanna has expressed deep concern over incessant fire outbreaks in the State, stressing that several properties were destroyed by the outbreaks.
Nnanna made the observations in Umuahia on Saturday while reacting to the recent fire incident at Amuzukwu primary school in Umuahia, Nigeria Institute of International Languages Aba and Chisco motor park, also in Aba.
He said his office would enforce the installation of fire extinguishers in buildings, as directed by the State government.
He noted that the Abia State government led by Governor Alex Otti is interested in the safety of Abia citizens and other residents and therefore, would tackle anything that threatens the safety of the people.
