Gunmen Attack Anambra LG Secretariat, Burn Police Station

Some yet-to-be-identified gunmen numbering over 30 on Thursday burnt a part of the Anaocha Local Government Headquarters in Neni, Anambra State.

The hoodlums, who were said to be heavily armed, also set ablaze a part of the Neni Police Station before the intervention of a combined team of security operatives.

The Eastern Updates s gathered that the attack occurred between 3:00 am and 4:00 am on Thursday.

A source in the area said the hoodlums were shouting, “DPO must go. He has overstayed. He has stayed in Anaocha for over 15 years.”

The source said the hoodlums alleged that Anaocha Police Station had become another SARS station, where many despicable things were happening.

The State Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident.

According to him, although the hoodlums attacked the police station with improvised explosive devices, they did not take away any arms, and did not abduct any police personnel.

He said: “The hoodlums were successfully repelled by the superior fire-power of the police operatives who engaged them and forced them to flee.

“Police operations has begun in the area to fish out those responsible for the attack. We assure that the police would leave no stone unturned to ensure that those behind the attack are brought to book.”

In another report, the Imo State governorship election tribunal, sitting in Abuja has admitted in evidence the certified true copies of statement of result and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) certificate belonging to Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State.

The Eastern Updates reports that the academic documents were tendered before the tribunal by the issuing body, WAEC.

WAEC’s action came in response to a subpoena issued on it by the tribunal to produce and tender the documents on behalf of Governor Uzodinma

The documents were produced before the tribunal by the Head of Administration at WAEC Headquarters, Omifenwa Tunbosu.
