Police Arrest 2 Insurgents, Recover AK-47 Rifles In Anambra

The Police Command in Anambra State has revealed that it has busted a deadly insurgent syndicate in the state and arrested two of its members.

A press release by the spokesperson of the command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the insurgents were arrested by police operatives, while on patrol with the local vigilante in Awka-Etiti, Idemili South LGA.

According to the statement which was obtained by The Eastern Updates: “They accosted the heavily armed gang, which was on a yet-to-be unravelled mission. The joint security team chased the hoodlums until the vehicle they were in ran into a ditch.

“After a shootout, two members of the gang were arrested, while four AK-47 rifles were recovered. Also recovered were one Toyota Highlander SUV with Reg. No. Lagos GGE 408 GZ.”

Ikenga said in another part of the state, Anaocha Local Government Area, a team of Police Officers also working with the local vigilante also intercepted a Toyota Venza car with registration No. Lagos EKY 746 JB at Neni.

“The driver of the car fled on sighting the joint team, but after a thorough search, 34 live cartridges were recovered from the vehicle,” he said.

Meanwhile, reports reaching the desk of The Eastern Updates has it that some yet-to-be-identified gunmen have kidnapped a senior matron serving with the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) Ituku-Ozalla in Enugu State.

Dr Augustine Duru, Chairman, Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) UNTH Chapter confirmed the report on Wednesday morning.

Duru said that the senior matron (name withheld due to security reasons) was kidnapped in the same spot a medical doctor was kidnapped some weeks ago in the teaching hospital.
