Enugu Crisis: LP Threatens To Declare Lawmakers’ Seats Vacant

The Enugu State chapter of the Labour Party (LP), has threatened to declare vacant seats of the  lawmakers who want to defect to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Enugu State LP Chairman, Casmir Agbo, issued the threat on Wednesday morning in a post on his Facebook page.

The Eastern Updates reports that the State government is under the control of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which won the March 18 gubernatorial election.

It was gathered there are ongoing political manoeuvrings and plans by some members of the house to shift camp to the ruling PDP.

However, Agbo is now saying that the party was aware of the antics of some LP members of HOA who want to decamp to PDP.

”We are aware of the antics of some LP members of HOA who want to decamp to PDP. Their seats will be declared vacant,” he said.

The Eastern Updates reports that the PDP controls the leadership of the State legislature even though it produced fewer seats in the house.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had in its released list after the 2023 general election said the party secured 14 seats out of the 24 seats.

INEC’s Head of Voter Education and Publicity in Enugu State, Rex Achumie, issued the list detailing the names, constituencies, parties and number of votes scored by the members-elect at the March 18 election.

According to the commission, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has the remaining 10 seats.

Meanwhile, the Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has dismissed speculations that the former Speakers of the State House of Assembly who visited Governor Alex Otti over the weekend were planning to defect to the Labour Party, LP.

The Eastern Updates recalls that members of the Conference of former Speakers of Abia State House of Assembly had on Friday, paid a visit to Governor Alex Otti where they endorsed his performances so far in office.
