Abia University: Cult Clash Claims Life Of 400-Level Student

The weekend witnessed a fatal confrontation between rival cult groups, resulting in the loss of a promising 400-level student studying History and International Relations at Abia State University.

Confirmation of the incident came from the Abia State Government during their weekly State Executive Council meeting, overseen by Governor Alex Otti, on Monday.

Addressing reporters, Commissioner for Information and Culture, Okey Kanu, disclosed that the state administration has mobilized security forces to Abia State University to quell the unrest and reinstate order.

Additionally, he urged students to shun violence and focus on their academic pursuits.

He said, “It has come to the notice of the state government about skirmishes in Abia State University, Uturu, between student groups where a student lost his life.

The official remarked that measures had been put in place to reinstate order within the institution. Furthermore, they highlighted that the state authorities had mobilized security forces to Abia State University Uturu.

“Some remedial actions have been taken to return normalcy (in the institution). The state government has dispatched some security agencies to Abia State University Uturu.”

The Eastern Updates learned that tensions are high at the school following the renewed outbreak of violence between the two rival cult groups, which left the 400-level student dead.

Eyewitnesses said that members of a rival group attacked the victim within the university area, which led to his death.

Although the school administration has not released an official statement regarding the incident, the state Commissioner of Police, Kenechukwu Onwumelie, affirmed that the police are actively investigating the matter.
