Listen to article

The residents of Aba, the commercial nerve centre of Abia State, are divided over the capacity of the newly commissioned Geometric Power Plant to guarantee steady power supply to the commercial city.

Those who spoke to reporters explained that they were still living in darkness despite the assurances that the plant would solve their electricity problems once it was inaugurated.

The Eastern Updates recalls that Governor Alex Otti of Abia had promised that after the commissioning of the facility which is the first integrated power plant in Nigeria, situated in Osisioma Industrial Area of the commercial city, there would be regular power supply to Aba and the other nine local government areas adjourning the city, which elicited jubilation among the residents.

However, despite the inauguration of the 181-megawatt Geometric Power Plant, which is being managed by Aba Power Limited Electric, the newest electricity distribution company (DisCo) in Nigeria, there are lamentations in some parts of the city as some residents have said they were yet to see the impact of the facility.

Some of the residents said they have not had electricity for days despite the assured promise of the capacity of the Geometric Power Plant to supply electricity to the city.

However, The Eastern Updates gathered from some residents of Aba that there was still the struggle for electricity in the areas as against the news trending on social media that the commercial city is now a beehive of activities following uninterrupted electricity supply which had lasted for days.

While in separate chats with our correspondent, some of the residents said for up to a week now, they were yet to see electricity talk less of having it steady.
