Some yet-to-be-identified gunmen have killed the President-General of Umuoji Community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Silas Onyima, The Eastern Updates has learnt.
It was gathered that the hoodlums who were numbering about 15, stormed the deceased’s home yesterday evening and shot him dead thereby throwing the community into panic.
A source who pleaded anonymity said, “The deceased was newly elected president general of our community and he also presided over one election in the community. He was killed on Friday evening when some masked men visited his home and shot him dead.”

Confirming the incident when contacted, the state police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said police operatives have been deployed in the area.
Ikenga said, “The police are aware of the development. We got the information and we have deployed our men to the area. Our men have gone to the scene when the information got to us, they found the man in a pool of blood.
“The body of deceased has been recovered and deposited at the morgue with the help of some of the family members. We are also working with some eyewitnesses and community members to help track the perpetrators and investigation is ongoing.”
In another report, a former Minority Leader of the Nigerian Senate, Enyinnaya Abaribe has asserted that the failure of security agencies to stamp out kidnapping and banditry exposes collusion between criminals and security agents.
The lawmaker, who has been representing Abia South Senatorial District since 2007 in the National Assembly, spoke on Inside Sources with Laolu Akande aired on Channels Television which was monitored by The Eastern Updates.
He decried that despite the many technological tools available at the disposal of security agencies, oil theft, kidnapping and insurgency still continue at alarming scale.
