Adachukwu Chikelu-Okafor, a female lawyer based in Anambra State, has voluntarily submitted herself to the police after being accused of brutally mistreating her 11-year-old househelp.
Allegedly involved in the disturbing act of inserting a hot knife into the house girl’s private parts, Chikelu-Okafor fled immediately afterward.
The Eastern Updates recounts that she was pronounced wanted by both the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and the State Ministry of Women Affairs, with a reward offered for her apprehension.
After voluntarily presenting herself, she was detained by the state police command, a fact affirmed by the state government to reporters in Awka, the state capital.
It has been gathered that she purportedly boasted of her profession as a lawyer while mistreating the child, suggesting that she believed she was immune to any repercussions.
The Eastern Updates reports women from Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State had also placed a N1 million bounty on her.
Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, meanwhile, verified the lawyer’s detention, revealing that the lawyer surrendered to the police in Onitsha a few days after a bounty of N2 million was placed on her head.
It was confirmed by Obinabo that the suspect will be presented before the Children, Sexual, and Gender-Based Violence Magistrate Court in Awka for arraignment later this week.
Furthermore, the commissioner revealed that she personally visited the hospital to see the victim of the brutal attack, confirming that the girl had been treated and discharged.
