How Imo Govt Established 16 Digital Tech Training Centres

Determined to expand the scope of the SkillUp Imo programme, the Government of Imo State has announced that it has established 16 digital-tech training centres across the state.

Dr. Chimezie Amadi who is the immediate past Commissioner for Digital Economy and E- Government, made this disclosure on Thursday while fielding questions from an Owerri- based privately owned radio station, Toast FM.

According to him, 20,000 people have been trained on tech talent, while 40,000 are still undergoing training, encompassing 15 tech-knowledge areas.

He said: “I can tell you that we have successfully graduated 20,000 tech talents. 40,000 are undergoing training and will graduate soon. In the next few years, Imo State will become a digital hub in Nigeria. There are 15 knowledge areas to leverage on in the SkillUp Imo. We have 16 learning centres in the state. The trainee chooses the one that is closest to him.”

Amadi disclosed that there are four critical building blocks, which the state had been leveraging on, including talent, economy, social and environmental sustainability.

The information technology expert lauded the initiative of the United States (U.S.) government in establishing the American Corner in Lagos, physically unveiled by the U.S. Secretary of State, Anthony Blinklen.

He noted that other states should leverage the opportunity to grow and expose the population, especially the youths, to digital tech.

In a related development, reports reaching the desk of The Eastern Updates has it that the Del-York Group has signed a landmark public-private partnership (PPP) agreement with the Enugu State Government for the development of the 042 Arena and entertainment park, a pioneering sports, education, and entertainment hub in Nigeria. 

The agreement was recently signed at the Government House, Enugu, in the presence of senior government officials and representatives of Del-York Group, among others.
