Soludo Acting Like A Dictator Against Monarchs – COSEYL

Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo has been accused of acting like a dictator against Anambra’s traditional rulers by the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), The Eastern Updates reports.

Mr. Goodluck Ibem who is the coalition’s president-general, made this assertion in a statement on Saturday.

The group decribed Governor Soludo’s treatment of Anambra’s traditional institution anti-democratic.

“The law banning conferment of chieftaincy titles to people outside the domain of a stool without the state government’s approval is dictatorial, anti-democratic, anti-people and barbaric.

“It is not a law but a decree because it does not represent the interest of the people.

“Governor Soludo should focus more on providing democracy dividends to the people,” stated the coalition.

According to the group, the law banning the conferment of chieftaincy title without the state government’s approval deprives the people of their traditional rights and privileges.

Through the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, the Anambra government suspended a traditional ruler for conferring a chieftaincy title on Ifeanyi Ubah.

It threatened others if they did not reverse the recognition.

Three traditional rulers bowed to pressure by apologising to the governor for conferring such titles and withdrew them.

The Eastern Updates recalls that traditional rulers in Anambra State had earlier in the week accused the State Government of mistreating and disrespecting them.

The traditional rulers, in a letter signed by the Chairman of Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council (ASTRC), Igwe Alfred Achebe, said the way the government maltreated and suspended members was disrespectful.

The Eastern Updates reports that the state government, through the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, suspended a traditional ruler for conferring a chieftaincy title on Senator Ifeanyi Ubah and threatened others if they did not reverse the recognitions.
