I Spent ₦500m To Defend My Election – Abia Federal Lawmaker

Hon. Amobi Godwin Ogah who is the House of Representatives member for Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Constituency, in Abia State, has revealed that he incurred about ₦500 million defending multiple cases filed by his opponents against his election in 2023 through the courts, election tribunal and finally the Appeal Court.

The Eastern Updates reports that Ogah, who is of the Labor Party (LP), contested the election against Nkeiruka Onyejeocha of the All Progressives Congress (APC), now Minister of State For Labour and Employment, Loveth Ofoegbu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who was also contesting for the seat for the fifth term, and other parties’ candidates.

Speaking to his supporters during a gratitude gathering at his Onuaku Uturu county home, Ogah thanked them for supporting him prior to, during, and following the election. He gave out food, cash, and clothing, among other things.

He thanked God and his constituents for voting for his election. He also appreciated the judiciary, especially the Appeal Court, which ultimately affirmed his election.

He announced that all South East members of the  National Assembly, irrespective of their political party membership, resolved to collectively and individually strive to do the needful to develop the region, including the  release of the detained Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB ), Nnamdi Kanu.

In another report, the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti has asserted that he will now settle down and rebuild  because he has no other distractions after the Supreme Court affirmed his victory in the 2023 general elections.

Otti made the declaration on Saturday at a Thanksgiving Service held at the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA), Eastern Union Conference Headquarters at Abayi Umueze in Osisioma local government area (LGA).

“Now that the distractions are over; now that the storm is over, I will settle down and rebuild Abia,” he pledged.

He claimed that he ran for office three times due to the embarrassment he felt whenever someone questioned him about the state of the union.
