NPFL: Okafor Targets More Goals For Struggling Heartland

Talented Heartland forward, Onyekachi Okafor, has expressed his desire and readiness to shoulder the goal-scoring responsibilities for the club even as the team hopes to return to consistent winning ways this season. 

The Eastern Updates reports that Okafor has managed to find the back of the net two for the Naze Millionaires this season.

The lanky forward said his priority is to help the team maintain their status in the Nigeria Premier Football League.

“We are preparing for the game against Niger Tornadoes as usual,” he told reporters.

“I don’t really have a target, but I want to take every match as a final, then try to score to help the team.”

Heartland currently occupy 17th position on the table with 16 points.

In a related development, Holders Enyimba recorded a 2-1 away win against Bayelsa United at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa on Thursday.

Chijioke Mbaoma netted the winning goal for Enyimba from the spot nine minutes from time.

In Enugu, Rangers defeated old rivals Shooting Stars 2-0.

Kalu Nweke and Chukwuebuka Okorie scored both goals for the Flying Antelopes.

At the New Jos Stadium, Albert Hilary scored the winning goal as Plateau United defeated Sporting Lagos 1-0.

Leaders Remo Stars fell to a 3-1 defeat against Heartland at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.

Promise Anyanwu gave Heartland the lead on 50 minutes, while Sikiru Alimi equalised 19 minutes later.

The hosts won with two late goals from Onyekachi Okafor and Chinedu Ike.

Mohammed Aminu equalised for Pillars late in the first half,while Ibrahim Mustapha netted the winner deep into stoppage time.
