The Anambra State Government has taken the decisive step of sealing off Good Health Hospital and Maternity in Osumenyi, Nnewi South Council Area.

Dr. Chukwulobelu Ugochukwu, the Director of Medical Services at the Ministry of Health, spearheaded a team to seal off the facility, citing allegations of illegality and quackery against the hospital.

Upon inspection, the hospital, accompanied by the team, displayed small and deteriorated structures, some serving as wards with beds, and a smaller room housing an operating bed that serves as the theatre.

The team, during their visit, met girls in uniforms who identified themselves as nurses. They claimed to have been trained by the hospital’s owner but opted not to disclose his name.

Also noted during the inspection was a diabetic patient with a leg ulcer who mentioned being admitted only a few days prior.

Dr. Ugochukwu said the hospital was not registered and is involved in quack activities, thus endangering the lives of the people.

He urged Ndi Anambra and residents of the state to patronize public health facilities to protect their lives, noting that the state government has continued to spend huge resources to upgrade and re-equip Primary Healthcare Centres and General Hospitals across the state, as well as employ qualified health workers to provide quality services to the people.

Dr. Ugochukwu, the state Commissioner for Health, affirmed that, in adherence to Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s directive, Dr. Afam Obidike is dedicated to eliminating illegal health facilities and quackery. The objective is to guarantee the provision of quality health services to the populace. Additionally, he disclosed that the Ministry is establishing a database for convenient access to approved and registered health facilities.

All attempts to secure a response from the owner of the facility were unsuccessful, as he opted to remain anonymous.
