Okaro Takes Helm As National President Of AWEP Nigeria

Dr. Grace Okaro, the Immediate Past Governor of Rotary International District 9142, emerged as the new National President of the African Women Entrepreneurship Program, Nigeria (AWEP) during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at the African School of Economics, Abuja.

Okaro, a member for approximately six years, previously held roles as the Zonal Secretary for South East, State Coordinator of Abia, and National Public Relations Officer within the organization.

Others elected include Hajia Farida Yahaya as Deputy National President, Mrs Nelly Ndaguba as National Secretary-General, Hajia Ruqayyah Mohammed as National Financial Secretary and Mrs Rosemary Akwashiki as National Treasurer. Ms Amede Achingale was returned as the National Internal Auditor while Mrs Helen Imoagene Clinched the position of National Publicity Secretary.

Dr. Okaro, in her acceptance speech representing her colleagues, conveyed gratitude to the organization’s members for their confidence in the newly elected executive. She committed to exceeding their expectations.

She committed to applying her leadership experience from various facets of her life, leveraging established networks and relationships, and utilizing systems thinking for the transformation of AWEP and the success of members’ businesses.

Additionally, she promised to establish platforms for regular entrepreneurial leadership training to enhance members’ knowledge and skills. Moreover, she vowed to create an inclusive business environment catering to the diversified needs of members across different zones.

‘There will be an effective channel of communication for proper dissemination of information and feedback from members, stakeholders and the public’, she stated.

‘She also promised to create a forum of stakeholders and support service providers for members to access for the development of their businesses and introduce quarterly virtual business sessions where every zone would be represented for exchange of knowledge & skills,’ she said.
