Barely 48 hours after chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State resolved to work together towards delivering the state to the party in the 2025 governorship poll in the state, the Governor of the state, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has fired back.
They spoke at the weekend when Senators Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah and Uche Lilian Ekwunife were formally presented to APC members in Anambra.
The Eastern Updates recalls that Ubah, had last month, announced his defection from Young Progressives Party (YPP) to the APC.
The chairman of APC in the state, Chief Basil EJidike, who received the two senators, hailed the leadership qualities of President Bola Tinubu, while requesting more commitment from the members of the party.
Ejidike, who spoke about the prospect of the APC taking Anambra in 2025 through the new entrants said: ‘We can achieve this great feat if we want, because the manpower and resources are readily available.
“Year 2025 affords us yet another opportunity to contest and win the Anambra State Government House. Let us, as one family, work towards achieving this goal for our party.
“I enjoin you, the new members, not to fail to sustain your dogged and positive humanitarian spirits, which is your hallmark. We urge you to double this inherent spirit in your service to the party.

‘The APC will definitely provide you the platform to do more in this regard. I pledge our unalloyed support and cooperation in all our dealings with all of you. Please, be rest assured that the party is large enough to accommodate everyone’s political aspirations.’
Chief Ejidike, noted that the flag of the party will fly in the Government House, Awka come 2025 which he said would make him fulfilled.
Ubah, in his speech, said the wait for the APC to take Anambra had ended.
‘APC will no longer keep quiet in Anambra, pretending that all is well when things are going wrong. APC has finally arrived in Anambra State.
“For the past 20 years of democracy in Nigeria, Anambra State has been lagging behind in national discuss.
“It is now time for us to move to the centre. I am not afraid of debate with anybody. When the time comes, we will all stand for the debate.”
“My interest is to ensure that Anambra State is attached to all the benefits that accrue from the centre (Federal Government),’ Ubah added.
Ekwunife, on her part, appreciated members of the party for welcoming her and her teeming supporters, promising to support the party in all aspects.
She said the APC is now the party to lead in Anambra State and solicited for peace and unity among members of the APC in the state.
The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Gov Charles Soludo on Political Matters, Engr Ezekiel Nwokoye while reacting asked the All Progressives Congress (APC) to stop their negative politics.
Engr Nwokoye who was speaking with journalists in Awka said that the type of politics being played by APC is inimical to growth and development of Anambra State.
The SSA to Gov Soludo said he ordinarily doesn’t glorify wailers by responding to their unnecessary criticism but added that the way everyone in APC appears to be enjoying speaking against the governor is not acceptable.
“It does appear that the APC members and officials have found joy by speaking against Prof Charles Soludo (CFR) inspite of the landmark achievements he has occasioned in Anambra State less than two years in office.
“It’s unfortunate that APC attack dogs have refused to open their eyes to 1 Youth 2 Skills of the the administration of the day which has lifted over 5000 youths out of poverty line. The second phase of the scheme is in progress. The beautiful aspect of the scheme is that it is opened for all Anambra youths irrespective of their political leanings.
“The same thing is applicable to the 5000 teachers recruited by Gov Soludo less few months into his administration, the second phase of that too has commenced, this time the governor is injecting 3000 teachers into the school system. This is backed up by total free education from Primary 1 to JSS 3.’
“The free antenatal and post natal for pregnant women in the state is there, it is not exclusively for APGA members. The unprecedented infrastructural development taking place in Anambra under the watch of Prof Soludo is for all and sundry.
“For me, I expect a responsible opposition political parties to applaud the governor for his initiatives rather than looking for anything to hold on to like sinking persons, imagine all they talk about is rice” he said.
Engr Nwokoye expressed surprise that everyone in APC has suddenly become armchair critic. He however solicited support of all and sundry for Gov Soludo in his efforts to build a prosperous, liveable, beautiful and smart homeland irrespective of political affiliations.
