The Police Command in Imo State has confirmed the arrest of one Chukwuebuka Ogugu (20) for shooting dead his friend, Ifeanyi Chukwu Ogukwe (25), with his late father’s single-barrel gun at Obolo Nzerem in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of the state.
Parading the suspect among 18 other suspects arrested for various crimes, the Police Commissioner, Mohammed Barde, said the suspect was arrested at the scene of crime at about 18.25 hrs on 18th August, 2023.
‘Chukwuebuka Ogugu, 20yrs, ‘m’ was arrested at the scene of crime by detectives of the Command’s State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (SCIID) for shooting his friend Ifeanyi Chukwu Ogukwe, ‘m’ 25yrs, all of the same address, to death.
On questioning, he claimed, the suspect admitted to killing his friend but claimed that it was an accident. He added that on the fateful evening, the suspect was servicing his late father’s single-barrel gun in preparation for routine hunting activities when he accidentally discharged the gun, striking his friend, who was hit in the head and chest and bled to death immediately.

He said that the lifeless body of the deceased had been evacuated and deposited at the morgue while the gun had been recovered and registered as exhibit.
According to him, the suspect will be arraigned in court upon completion of the ongoing investigation by the SCIID.
However, when the suspect was interview by newsmen he admitted killing his friend but stated that he was the person that voluntarily reported the case to the police at Obowo Police Station.
Also, Barde disclosed that another suspect, Akalonu Donald ‘m’, 72 yrs was allegedly arrested for allegedly stabbing his 35 years-old relative, Achilike Akalonu (35), over minor quarrel.
He said: ‘In a related development, painstaking investigating efforts of the Command’s State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Homicide Department (SCIID) in a case of Murder reported by Akalonu Darlington ‘m’ 28yrs, led to the arrest of Akalonu Donald ‘m’, 72 yrs who was alleged of killing his 35 years old relative, Achilike Akalonu ‘m’, all from Umuoba in Owerri North LGA of Imo State, on 1/9/2023 by stabbing repeatedly with a knife at his chest body over a minor quarrel.’
He said the lifeless body of the deceased has since been evacuated and deposited at the morgue for preservation while the suspect will be arraigned in court upon completion of the investigation.
