Agric University Declares War On Food Crisis In Imo

The University of Agricul­ture and Environmental Sciences, Umuagwo, Imo State, has begun aggressive cultivation of several hectares of lands, with fruits, crops and sun­dry economic trees being planted, harvested and sold to members of the public. 

Profes­sor Christopher Chiedozie Eze who is the acting Vice Chancellor of the institution, said that as a special unique university, the ideas was to strengthen government’s efforts to boost agricultural yields and also earnest food crisis in the state.

Eze, a Professor of Ag­ricultural Environmental and member Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) cum Solicitor of the Supreme Court as well as Fellow of the Nigerian Association of Agricultural Econo­mist, disclosed this while interacting with newsmen in his office when he un­folded his achievements.

He named bread fruits trees, Avocados, Oranges, pears, coconuts, grapes as among the economic trees planted and the fruits har­vested and sold at reduced prices adding that agro ecological farms are in the making to further quicken food production.

The former Dean of the Post Graduate Studies of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) also disclosed that his institution had estab­lished formidable links with both the EU and the UNIDO the promotion of academic excellence espe­cially on research.
