The government of Ebonyi State has approved the immediate release of ₦300 million promised by the immediate past administration and other funds amounting to ₦700 million to Ebonyi State University (EBSU).
The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Jude Okpor, made this known in Abakaliki, on Thursday after the Executive Council meeting.
He noted that Governor Francis Nwifuru approved the construction and rehabilitation of eight roads in parts of the state, which have been in deplorable conditions.
Okpor further stated that the council also approved the construction of a befitting duplex for each traditional ruler in fulfilment of the governor’s campaign promise.

The roads to be rehabilitated, according to him, include 41km Road from Obubara Junction to Oferekpe; 19km Obvudechi – Iziogo Road; 31. 827km Oferekpe- Agbaja Road; 12.81km Ishieke Odomoke Ekebiligwe – Isophu – Nworie Road; 1.3km Ebonyi Agro Dealers Market road; Ogboenyi, off Ndibe beach Road; Afikpo, Itara-Dr. Akanu Ibiam-Oyoyo-Erei Road and Alo Street to Unity Square Road.
The Commissioner also disclosed that the council approved upward review of EBSU monthly subvention from ₦150 to ₦200 million.
He said: ‘Council approved the release of N300 million promised by the immediate past administration to the state university. The total sum of N700 million will be released to EBSU.
‘Council also approved construction of a befitting duplex for each traditional ruler in the state in fulfillment of Nwifuru’s campaign promise.
‘Finally, the council approved the purchase of vehicles for executive council members, House of Assembly members and security agencies.’
Meanwhile, Governor DaveUmahi has asserted President Bola Tinubu was solely responsible for his nomination as a minister from his state.
Umahi promised to work diligently to justify the trust placed in him. He also stated that he had no prior knowledge of the ministry he would be overseeing.
He spoke in Abakaliki while addressing journalists after he was received by Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State.
The former governor said he owed profound appreciation to President Tinubu for ‘fulfiling his promise during the trying period’.
