Chukwumerije’s Son, 18 Others Named Commissioners By Otti

The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti has nominated 19 individuals for appointment as commissioners in the state a month after he swearing in.

The Eastern Updates can confirm that the list has been submitted to the Abia State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.

Among those nominated by Governor Otti to serve in his cabinet is Mr Chaka Chukwumerije, one of the sons of the late Senator Uche Chukwumerije.

Others are Prof Monica Ironkwe, Kingsley Anoribe, Prof Uche Eme, Philomena Asonye Ogbonna, Mike Akpara, Ngozi Okoronkwo, and Okey Kanu.

Also on the list are Ikechuckwu Uwaoma, Uzo Nwachukwu, Prof Joel Friday Ogbonna, Chima Emmanuel Oriaku, Nwaobilor Nwadimma Ananaba, and Dr Chimezie Isaac Ukaegbu.

Others are Ngozi Blessing Felix, Don Otutmchere Oti, Sunny Okebugwu Owunna, Ikechuckwu Monday, and Mathew Chikodi Ekwuribe.

Recall that Governor Otti had in during the week ordered the immediate suspension of all permanent secretaries in various Ministries, Agencies, and Departments, MDA’s in the state.

Katie Oko, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor made this decision public in a statement yesterday.

The statement pointed out that Head of Service has been suspended also.

Oko explained that the development is coming against the backdrop of the inauguration of the Judicial Panel of Inquiry on the Recovery of Properties and Funds belonging to Abia State Government.

Justice Florence Ikwuoma Duruoha-Igwe of the State High Court Umuahia was named the chairman of the panel.

Other members of the panel are Prof Ursula Ngozi Akanwa, Mazi Ugochukwu Okoroafor and Rev Fr Alex Okonkwo, and Prof Ogwo Ekeoma Ogwo.

In a tweet via his Twitter handle on Wednesday morning, Otti said he decided to set up a panel to recover the state’s assets because of large-scale allegations of misuse and misappropriation of public resources by former government officials.
