Senator Annie Okonkwo Confirmed Dead

A former lawmaker who represented Anambra Central Senatorial District in the sixth National Assembly, Senator Clement Annie Okonkwo has been confirmed dead.

The Eastern Updates gathered that Okonkwo passed on Wednesday at the age of 63 after almost recovering from a brief illness.

The development is coming barely less than a week to the inauguration ceremony of his son, Uchenna Harris Okonkwo, who is the House of Representatives member-elect for Idemili North and South Federal Constituency of the state.

The deceased who was elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, represented the District in the Sixth National Assembly from 2007-2011.

He was also a former governorship aspirant during the 2010 governorship election in the State, but lost to the then incumbent governor, Peter Obi, who was re-elected.

Meanwhile, his family is yet to release an official statement on his demise.

In another report, the Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial zone, Senator Uche Ekwunife has rendered an account of her stewardship at the Senate to the members of her constituency, maintaining that she gave her best to her constituents.

The Eastern Updates reports that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker failed to gain reelection to the red chambers in the just concluded polls.

The 52-year-old politician, who addressed the members during a townhall meeting she convened in Awka, said she is leaving the Senate as a proud politician, and that she will not quit active politics because she is still too young and active to retire.

The senator lost her return bid to the Senate to the Labour Party candidate, Victor Umeh, during the last 25th of February senatorial election described her defeat as a result of blackmail by her opponents.
