Gunmen Attack US Security Advance Team In Anambra, Kill Four

There was mild pandemonium on Tuesday as fear gripped Anambra State residents after an attack by some yet-to-be-identifed gunmen on a US security advance team left four people dead. 

A United States Mission Nigeria spokesperson confirmed to The Eastern Updates recalls that four of its personnel were killed.

‘We confirm there was an incident on May 16 in Anambra state.

‘U.S. Mission Nigeria personnel are working with Nigerian security services to investigate. The security of our personnel is always paramount, and we take extensive precautions when organizing trips to the field.  We have no further comment at this time.’

Though the identity of those who carried out the attack was not unknown at press time, multiple sources said the attack was carried out those usually described as ‘unknown gunmen.

Meanwhile, the Police Command in the state has denied viral reports of the killing of some United States citizens in the state.

The Command Spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement on Wednesday in Onitsha, said that no U.S citizen was in the convoy attacked by gunmen on Tuesday.

The gunmen opened fire on the convoy of staff of U.S Consulate, in Ogbaru Local Government Area of the state.

Ikenga however said two mobile policemen and two staff members of the U.S Consulate on the convoy were killed and their bodies and vehicles set on fire.
