Ikpeazu Assures NYSC Members Of Protection In Abia

The Government of Abia State has assured members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), that their lives and properties are secured during their stay in the state.

The assurance was offered by the outgoing Governor of the state, Okezie Ikpeazu during the swearing-in ceremony of Batch A Stream II corps members at the NYSC permanent camp in Umunnaato, Bende LGA.

The governor, who was represented by the Abia State Commissioner for Youth Development, Charles Esonu, said his administration is doing everything possible to support the NYSC in Abia.

According to Governor Ikpeazu: ‘In Abia State, the government will continue to do its part to give the needed support and enabling environment for you to excel by consciously taking every measure to ensure that your life and properties, including that of other citizens, are protected against all forms of molestation and abuse.’

He described Abia as accommodating, friendly and hospitable for all residents and urged NYSC members to always promote peace and unity in the state in particular and Nigeria in general throughout their service period and beyond.

Gov Ikpeazu further charged them to positively contribute to the development of communities and establishments they are posted to serve, even as he encouraged them to make friends across the nation for future opportunities.

In her speech, Abia State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs. Dick Iruenabere Ufuoma said the three weeks of orientation training was used to expose the corps members to the ideals of NYSC.

A total of 1,193 corps members, comprising 597 males and 596 females, were registered at the time of the swearing-in, performed by Justice Chiedozie Nwakanma on behalf of the acting Chief Judge of Abia State, Justice Lillian Abai.
