Ebonyi Assembly Denies Granting Umahi’s ₦33bn Loan Request

The House of Assembly in Ebonyi State under the leadership of Speaker Francis Nwifuru who is the incoming Governor of the state has denied claims that it approved a loan request of ₦33 billion by the outgoing administration of Governor David Umahi, describing such allegations as ‘false’.

The Majority Leader, Victor Chukwu who spoke on behalf spoke on behalf of the House during an interaction with journalists on Tuesday, described the report that the assembly approved the loan as a misleading rumour.

The leader in the state assembly stressed that the state government had never approached the legislature at any time with a request of any loan.

Chukwu said the false information making the rounds in some sections of the media was the workings of the opposition.

He expressed perplexity over what he termed politics being taken to the extreme of opposition parties misinforming the public against the government.

In another report, Mr. Linus Okorie who is the senatorial candidate of the Labour Party, LP, for Ebonyi South zone has come out to allege that his mandate was stolen by the outgoing governor of the state, David Umahi vowing to recover it.

According to him, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was used by the outgoing Governor to perpetrate the electoral heist.

Okorie, who was a two-time member of the House of Representatives, and represented Ohaozara, Onicha, and Ivo federal constituency, insisted that he was the one that won the Ebonyi South senatorial election that was held on 25th February 2023.

He made this known while speaking with newsmen in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State.
