3-Term PDP Reps Member In Anambra Losses To LP Candidate

The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday declared the candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Afam Ogene as the winner of Saturday’s Ogbaru Federal Constituency supplementary election in Anambra.

The shocking victory now means Mr. Ogene has managed to unseat the three-term incumbent House of Representatives member for the constituency, Chukwuma Onyema of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

INEC’s Returning Officer for the elections, Kingsley Ubaorji, while announcing the results at Atani, headquarters of Ogbaru Local Government Area said Mr. Ogene polled 10,851 votes to defeat Mr. Onyema, who polled 10,619 votes.

He went on to add that Arinze Awogu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) polled 10,155 votes as the second runner-up.

‘Afam Ogene of the Labour Party, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes cast, is declared winner of the election,’ Mr Ubaorji said.

INEC declared the initial election held on February 25 inconclusive because of infractions and violence.

In a related development, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, has won the rerun election for Ezza North/Ishielu federal constituency in Ebonyi.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Sunday, declared Joseph Nwobashi the winner.

The Returning Officer, Prof. Augustine Ibegbu of Alex Ekwueme University, announced Nwobashi won with 11,890 votes.

He defeated Emmanuel Nwite of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who got 11,150 votes; Chinedu Oguta of Labour Party, LP, polled 8,076 votes.
