Ebonyi: Your Alliance Won’t Stop Me, Odii Tells Umahi, Anyim

Listen to article

Dr. Ifeanyi Odii who is the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State has claimed that the ‘fake romance’ between Governor David Umahi and a former President of the Senate, Anyim Pius Anyim, will not in anyway stop him from emerging victorious in Saturday’s polls.

The Eastern Updates had earlier reported that Anyim had on Wednesday, at his Ishiagu country home, in the Ivo Local Government Area of the state, hosted Umahi and declared his support for the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Francis Nwifuru.

Anyim, who is a chieftain of the PDP, said his decision was based on the need for equity, saying there was a need for power to shift to Ebonyi North Senatorial District.

But briefing journalists in Abakaliki, on Thursday, Odii said he was not campaigning for the vote of one particular person but for the votes of the entire people of the state who believe that a new Ebonyi State was possible.

He partly said, ‘It’s a matter of choice. We don’t force people. We are with the people and we are confident because we are with the people; the larger part of society is with us.

‘We are contesting for Ebonyians to vote us in. We are not panicking.

‘You know, we don’t make noise; some are good at propaganda; we work behind the scene. We are after achieving results.’

In another development, ahead of the Saturday gubernatorial and state assembly elections in Ebonyi State, the Labour Party in the state has announced the endorsement of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.

The Eastern Updates reports that Nwifuru is the anointed candidate of the incumbent outgoing governor of the state, Dave Umahi who is expected to leave office in May 2023.

In a communique issued by the Ebonyi State Labour Party chairman, Godwin Jioke, the party explained that it does not have any candidate in the governorship race owing to ‘protracted legal tussles.’
