Ubah Declared As Winner Of Anambra South Senatorial Poll

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the senatorial candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, winner of the Anambra South senatorial district election held on Saturday, February 25.

The YPP candidate polled 73,115 to win the election; while his closest rival, Hon. Chris Emeka Azubogu of APGA occupied second position with 45,369; while LP and PDP trailed behind with 28,102, and 21,209 votes respectively.

In another result which was yet to be declared, the candidate of the Labour Party, Senator Victor Umeh, is already in a joyful mode, after defeating the incumbent, Senator Uche Ekwunife of the People’s Democratic Party to win the Anambra Central Senatorial election.

Also, LP candidate, Hon. Tony Nwoye, is touted to have defeated an incumbent, Senator Stella Oduah, to win the senatorial election for Anambra North senatorial zone.

Both candidates allegedly pulled through, following the huge popularity of the Labour Party, as a result of the Peter Obi factor.

Many candidates of the House of Representatives also won their election on the platform of the Labour Party because of the popularity of Mr. Peter Obi in the state.

In another report, the Imo State chapter of the Labour Party has called for the immediate removal of the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. Sylvia Agu, all electoral officers, and supervisory presiding officers, over alleged ineptitude in Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections.

The party also said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state, and the state government, led by Hope Uzodinma, ‘should be held liable for inciting insurrection if her actions result in post-election violence in the state.’

The party Chairman, Ambrose Onyekwere, who stated this in a press briefing, held in Owerri, yesterday, highlighted reasons, that necessitated the demands.
