APC Is A Religiously Insensitive Party – Kenneth Okonkwo

A chieftain of the Labour Party, LP, Kenneth Okonkwo has described the All Progressives Congress (APC), as a religious party.

He made this assertion whole speaking on Thursday when he appeared on Channels Television 2023 Verdict which was The Eastern Updates.

The spokesperson of the LP Presidential Campaign Council stated the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the APC was against the provisions of the constitution.

Okonkwo said the fact that the country’s laws country highlights fairness was an indication that the religion must be taken into consideration in politics and governance.

He pointed out that APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, his running mate Kashim Shettima and others top officers holders are Muslims.

The APC chairman (Abdullahi Adamu) is Muslim, the Senate President (Ahmad Lawan) is Muslim, the House of Representatives Speaker (Femi Gbajabiamila) is Muslim.

‘The Deputy Speaker (Ahmed Wase) is Muslim. APC is a religious party, they are religious. This is a multi-religious country,’ the LP member said.

Okonkwo also claimed there are plans to make Lawan and Gbajabiamila return to their positions if the ruling party retains power.

In another report, the Labour Party has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to postpone the election in Enugu East Senatorial District following the death of its candidate, Oyibo Chukwu.

The Eastern Updates reports that Mr. Chukwu was murdered on Wednesday alongside his personal assistant, by some yet-to-be-identified gunmen.

In its reaction to the shocking news, the Labour Party in a statement by its National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure, said the postponement is essential as to enable the party conduct a fresh primary and participate in the election.

Abure submitted that Enugu state is one of the states where the party enjoys maximum support and the LP candidate was on course to win the Enugu East senatorial seat in this election.
